I have a real soft spot for nicely fitted, comfortable skirt with a great flare that isn’t too short nor too long! But they are SO hard to come by, right? I find my self looking for the perfect one to suit my length (My number 1 problem at all times being as tall as I am). Most skirts are usually too short over my knees, ends up sitting half up my thighs ready to show everything in under –> ‘Any second now’ – Or the skirt is meant to be a maxi skirt but on ME, they end up looking weirdly too short like ‘I have no idea how to dress myself accordingly to my length’. You tall girls out there know what I am talking about, right?
I recon this is the reason for why I almost always wear long pants, because it can be so difficult finding the right skirt for me. But ok, I have always been a long pant girl, I think it suits my body shape the best and I think it looks more sophisticated on me. But at the same time I want some variety in my every day casual wear as well as when I want to dress up.
I have found The perfect Midi-Skirt from Dropfus, and when I first saw it I knew it would come home with me! I had to somehow break up the pant squad and bring on a flattering feminine touch to my new spring wardrobe.
As I know it can be tricky finding the right length skirt – I decided to put together a few little tips on how to find the perfect length and shape skirt, suitable for any occasion/location this spring.
The most universally flattering skirt length is just above, just below or at the knee (a relatively thin part of the leg.
Style tip: I recommend a hemline just above or just below the knee for the most flattering look.
- The Mini skirt is a tricky one as it shows a lot of leg which allows endless possibilities for things to go very wrong. Don’t get me wrong, anyone can wear it but just make sure it’s not TOO short or tight (in my opinion). For that one reason I always try to avoid this option – It’s not a favourite of mine. I look way more flattering in the Midi skirt!
Style tip: Don’t go too short, keep it down to at least half way down your thigh!
- The midi-skirt! These ones can be tricky as they hit the widest part of the calf and can visually shorten your legs. Ideally, you want your skirt to hit the thinnest part of your calf for a flattering look and avoid your legs from looking shorter than they really are.
Style Tip: In general, midis are best with a high heel or nude shoe to visually elongate the leg.
A Maxi skirt can be worn by most women. Wear above the ankle bone with a flat or wear to the floor with a heel. I always try to avoid letting the skirt drag on the floor, it doesn’t look flattering at all and the look doesn’t look complete without showing the shoes.
Style tip: If your maxi covers your whole leg, show some skin somewhere else (i.e. your arms or neck). Slits also keep a long dress or skirt slimming.
